Silent Son
Oil on Plexiglass, 2018
Showed at Pop-up Gallery: Two Nights Mulberry Street
2 x 3 ft.
A companion piece to its larger counterpart “Bleeding Son”, this piece induces a quieter moment than its big brother, allowing shimmering moods through lighter layering and more delicate handling of paint. Different conversations emerge at different scales, and this more intimate, medium size allows the piece an aspect of voyeurism, of silent-windowed observation, as opposed to the engulfment and enormity asserted by something more expansive. While the bigger piece is destined for museum walls in a forthcoming institution, this smaller feature exudes a more domestic quality, a brightness fit for a home and subtle geometry proportioned for the long-term back and forth that any such abstract-minimalist work deserves.
