Something for a more intense eye, this is a painting that desires to be looked at, conversed with, understood and misunderstood. Though the line-work is itself stable, it does not promote stability within the piece, given the weight of each lateral and diagonal movement of paint. Instead, focus shifts around dramatically, from a frantic dance about the different quadrants throughout which lines send the eye where pigments have or have not settled, to a settling on the great weight imposed by the heaviest, glossiest movement of paint towards the top. The impasto shine of the thickest section echoes the illumination the plexiglas surface can provide, or reflect, depending on where and how paint is moved, congealed, or bled within the space. This in turn echoes meditations on light and darkness, on how they function within a space/spaces, and how they relate to the natures of revelation and concealment on grand and pedestrian scales.
